I met Kanye West

I had a weird dream.The night start off rather normal, I got off work and came home. I went to sleep that night just like any other night…playing Angry Birds on my iPhone and before long I was in dream land, but it was not like a regular dream. I woke up in a frantic craze because the dream was so realistic, but enough with my rumbling and lets get to the actual dream.

I was sitting there chilling, everything was quiet and serene on the beach with my favorite drink. No sand in my ass, and my feet were ever so slightly wet. As I sat and sipped I saw a figure walking towards me on the beach. It was not your everyday beach silhouette, this person had a business suit on slim cut with Louboutin loafers. Odd apparel for the beach right? Well it goes further, this person walking further has  a wide grin as if happy to see me, odd but it looks like this person is Kanye West.

Goddamn Kanye, this dude walks up to me on the beach in a full suit, not dripping an ounce of sweat. He introduced himself to me which was odd, but even more odd was the fact that he knew who I was. I know I should add more but damnit that is all I remember from the dream. It felt so real, I bet you never met Kanye West on the beach now have you?

Whether you’re a second-generation African born in the Diaspora, an African-American whose roots seem untraceable, or an African living on the continent, through our shared history we are, as Nas &amp; Damian Marley put it, “distant relatives”. As an African, what’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is mine. As a family, even with severed relations, the pains and struggles of black people around the world are burdens that I share and adopt as my own. So wear that African print or pendant if it makes you feel more connected, take on that Swahili or Sotho name in an effort to reclaim what was so violently taken from you. Whatever seperation that was created by our oppressors can no longer continue to flourish as they divide and conquer in new ways as time passes.
